Kirk/McCoy

This Feeling That You Can't Fight by blue_jack (Kick/McCoy, NC-17, 1,150 words)
Summary: Damn Jim and his crazy ideas, and damn him for agreeing to them.
Notes: This fic takes place in the aftermath of a sex scene, and yet it's just as hot as if the action were happening in real time. Bones feeling so sore and well used, and yet still wanting more...UNF.

Kirk/McCoy
I'll Still Let You In by withthepilot (Kirk/McCoy, NC-17, 11,500 words)
Summary: An ill-advised drive out in a bad snowstorm lands Jim in an unexpected situation, at a cozy B&B in his own town. Turns out that he and the hot, cranky owner are crossing paths at the exact right moment.
Notes: This is an absolutely charming modern-day AU that made me smile. I loved flirty!Jim and cranky!Bones, and the way they were rather adorably awkward with each other before they finally got things figured out.

Reflections Still Look the Same to Me by knune (Kirk/McCoy, PG-13, ~3,600 words)
Summary: Not everyone loves Christmas. In fact, Leonard McCoy hates it but with good reason.
Notes: A painful story, but not without hope, told in a wonderfully spare writing style. (Just a note: This story is slightly AU, which threw me off a little when I hit it unexpectedly.)

The fault is not in our stars by eonism (Kirk/McCoy, NC-17, ~20,800 words)
Summary: James T. Kirk is going to Rura Penthe. Pike is in his corner, Spock has his reservations, and McCoy is coming with no matter what Kirk has to say on the subject.
Notes: If you're looking for a plotty, gripping mission fic, look no further. The author does an amazing job of capturing the harsh, cold world of the alien planet, and the non-linear narrative helps ratchet up the tension. There's a developing K/M relationship in the mix as well. And I enjoyed the author's use of Pike.

Other
One of My Own by zauzat (Pike/Kirk, NC-17, 7,000 words)
Summary: Post-Narada: Pike is helping Kirk with the outfitting of the Enterprise. When his anger and guilt clashes with Kirk's own issues, the confrontation takes them somewhere neither man expected.
Notes: This is a fantastic exploration of the complicated emotions both Pike and Kirk must've been feeling after the Narada encounter. I like how the author captures both men's insecurities, and the tension between them.

A King of Infinite Space by the_dala (Kirk/Sulu, PG-13, 3,577 words)
Summary: Kirk, Sulu, and Tarsus IV.
Notes: This is a sensitive take on the "Jim was on Tarsus IV" trope, with an absolutely wonderful supportive role from McCoy. The author has a lovely, understated way with Jim and Hikaru's emotions.

Two Gay Uncles series by robanybody (Pike/Archer plus Kirk, NC-17, ~30,000 words total)
Summary: So apparently when Cee tells me things like "write me a story about how Jim knows Admiral Archer's dog" and follows it up with "SAM BECKETT IN SPACE," my immediate response is not to run screaming in the opposite direction, but to yell out, "omg I want to write that!"
Notes: I am incredibly late to the party on this particular set of stories, but I'm reccing them in case anyone else out there has somehow managed to miss the brilliance of this 'verse. I can't decide which aspect of the series I liked better: the romantic/sexual relationship between Archer (a total BAMF) and Pike, or the paternal relationship between Archer and Kirk. The whole series is funny, sometimes moving, and well characterized.

Phosphenes by makowe_pola (Kirk/Spock, worksafe)
Notes: The pose, the background, the soft colors and textures...all just beautiful.

Christmas Eve by novembery (Kirk/Spock, NC-17)
Notes: Loving smut with a gorgeous background.

Ashayam by romanse1 (Kirk/Spock, worksafe but suggestive!)
Notes: Mmmmm, the faces are just amazing in this. Spock looks intently focused and Jim looks like Spock is blowing his mind. ;-)

Art for Secret Vulcan Mating Rituals by deliciousny (Kirk/Spock, NC-17)
Notes: This is older art that I only recently discovered, and it pretty much made my brain explode. Hot, hot, and did I mention hot? The first panel with Jim's rear peeking out of little black undies... *rest of body explodes*

Once Upon a Time by igrockspock (Gaila, Chapel, Uhura, PG-13, 4,000 words)
Summary: Privacy and fairy tales are two concepts that don't translate well into Orion.
Notes: This is a beautiful look at fairy tales, cultural misunderstandings and female friendship. It's fascinating to see American culture from the perspective of an outsider like Gaila; her take on privacy, for instance, really made me think.

TOS:
When In Rome by twisting_vine_x (Kirk/Spock/McCoy, NC-17, ~17,000 words)
Summary: The angsty aftermath of one particularly nasty away mission.
Notes: This fic is set after "Bread and Circuses," and takes a believably slow, complicated, and sexy path to get this threesome together.

Kirk/McCoy

Perfect by nix_this (Kirk/McCoy, NC-17, 1,700 words)
Summary: Orgasms and coffee, preferably in that order, are the only things that can get his doctor anything close to approachable before noon, and Jim's happy enough to provide.
Notes: Mmmmmmm. Sleepy, intimate morning sex that manages to be both hot and packed with spot-on characterization. Gorgeous.

Too Many Dicks on the Dance Floor by canis_takahari (Kirk/McCoy/Kirk, NC-17)
Summary: Not every transporter malfunction is necessarily a bad thing. Two Jims can attest to that. One McCoy might complain a bit.
Notes: A hilarious, hot romp featuring two ridiculously smug and cocky Kirks and a McCoy who loves every second of it, despite his grumbling.

Other

You Gotta Be Starving For It by brighteyed_jill (Pike/McCoy/Kirk, NC-17, 1,000 words)
Summary: Pike tests McCoy's limits with a little help from Kirk.
Notes: Two cocks inside one McCoy. NOM. If that's not enough to lure you in, it's well written and well characterized too.

Kirk/Spock
How We Are by alpha_hydra (Kirk/Spock, NC-17, 35,000 words)
Summary: Even when they hate each other, they're still sort of falling in love.
Notes: I liked the premise of this fic -- that Kirk and Spock are having major problems getting along in the early days of their first mission because they don't seem to speak the same language. At McCoy's suggestion, they decide to try counseling. The author writes the tension and misunderstandings between the two very well, as well as the vulnerabilities and insecurities that trigger them.

Kirk/McCoy
Nowhere With You by canis_takahari (Kirk/McCoy, NC-17, 7,100 words)
Summary: Jim’s annual Hannukah traditions include ice fishing with his brother Sam in Iowa, growing a beard, spending the holiday with his entire family at the farmhouse, and eating his weight in latkes. This year, he’s also bringing Bones to meet his mother for the first time. It’s a challenge to keep Bones from imploding in a ball of anxiety. Luckily, Jim is a fan of challenges.
Notes: This is a modern-day AU (a follow-up to Run (I'm a Natural Disaster), which you should also read) featuring Bones meeting Jim's mom, a yearly ice fishing tradition between Jim and Sam, and Bones getting beard burn in strange places. It's pretty much guaranteed to brighten your day.

where i lay my hat by romancandles (Kirk/McCoy, PG-13, 5,900 words)
Summary: If Bones wants to spend a ridiculous amount of his own salary keeping an empty apartment, then by all means.
Notes: This fic is about the apartment that Bones keeps in San Francisco for when he's on leave from the Enterprise, and about how he and Jim slowly make it a home. That description makes it sound sentimental, but it's wonderfully not so -- it's funny and real and just sweet enough.

Other
Make Me Believe by circ_bamboo (Pike/McCoy, NC-17, 23,000 words)
Summary: Pike, after the events of the Narada, must put himself back together before he can fall for McCoy.
Notes: This fic hits on a ton of things that I'm predisposed to like in fic -- Pike/McCoy, post-Narada Pike, imperfect sex, healing and H/C -- but then it partners all of that with some wonderfully understated writing that truly makes the story shine. It's an unsparing look at what Pike may have gone through after being captured by Nero, and I like how the author presents some really heavy emotions without melodrama. I also love the way she writes Pike's relationships with his friends and eventually McCoy (who is lovely in this).

April Is Over by jlh (Rand/Chapel, background Kirk/McCoy, NC-17, 28,000 words)
Summary: An AU set among American expats in 1920s Paris. In Janice Rand’s experience, lesbians don't fall in love, so she puts her passion into her paintings and finds physical comforts where she can. Christine Chapel, a recently divorced socialite and accomplished hostess, hopes to recapture the magic of her first love without its problems. When their best friends become a couple, bringing them much together, the two are forced to confront their assumptions about romance, which leads them to a conclusion neither had anticipated.
Notes: I don't read much femslash, but this author never disappoints (and I was also lured by the Kirk/McCoy, which may not be the main focus of the fic but is quite romantic and well characterized). I loved the way the author writes the friendships among the main core of characters. Janice and Christine are strong, sexy, well-rounded female characters that you can't help but root for. Also, don't miss the art and the mix that go along with this -- both are fantastic and add to the atmosphere of the fic.

Shining On The Quay by topaz119 (Pike/Kirk, NC-17, 23,000 words)
Summary: When Captain Christopher Pike left the bridge of the USS Enterprise over Vulcan, he went with the full knowledge that he was a dead man walking. The team he left in command had a different idea, one that they managed to pull off; and so, in the weeks and months after, Chris found himself putting his life back together. He was more than a little surprised to find Jim Kirk a part of it.
Notes: I liked this look at Pike in the aftermath of his capture by Nero. This author writes an amazing Jim Kirk, and I enjoyed the use of minor/original characters as well. And it's sexy as hell.

Winged Desires and Veiled Persuasions by imachar (Pike/Boyce/McCoy, NC-17, 13,000 words)
Summary: McCoy is feeling a little neglected at Spock and Uhura’s wedding reception, the Admirals make him feel much better. Almost unrelieved porn, seriously – a little conversation here and there – but pretty much just porn.
Notes: Yes, this story consists mostly of smut, but it's not only hot like burning but also mature and intimate and intelligent. I love how comfortable Pike and Boyce are in their relationship and in who they are -- this author excels at demonstrating how competence, life experience and a few gray hairs are just as sexy as flashy, youthful good looks. And I love how she reveals the little hints of vulnerability that the characters trust each other enough to show.

The Factotum by ewinfic (Zachary Quinto/Jonathan Groff, NC-17, ~40k words)
Summary: From a romance-novel-blurb prompt at the zq_jg kink meme - "Working for reclusive author Zachary Quinto sounded like Jonathan's dream job... until he met his new boss. Zach might be movie-star handsome, but his gruff grouchiness makes it clear that Jonathan is not exactly welcome. Jonathan's a fighter and he refuses to tiptoe around a man who clearly needs looking after, even if he's too stubborn to admit it! As cracks gradually appear in Zach's forbidding exterior, for the first time Jonathan feels dangerously close to belonging. Can he hope for his own happy-ever-after?"
Notes: So good you'll need a cigarette afterwards.

That Voice by janice_lester (Zach/Chris, NC-17, 3,700 words)
Summary: Zach's shirt isn't happy about Chris colliding with him that day, but no one else regrets it at all.
Notes: This is a charming AU featuring Zach as a legally blind singing teacher and Chris as a reader of erotic audiobooks. This story is sweet and sexy, and will make you smile.

Snakes on a Plane by lousy_science (Chris/Zach, NC-17, 2,500 words)
Summary: For the following prompt: "You know those pictures Chris' sister put on photobucket of the plane and it looked like first class had those little cubicles? Porny, awkward sex in one of those. Would love some struggle to find/hold positions or keep quiet."
Notes: This is very hot, but the banter between Chris and Zach kept me giggling through the whole thing. Fun read.

Geeks in the Bodies of Gods (Or: Karl Urban Isn't a Geek, He's a Level Twelve Paladin) by thalialunacy (Chris/Karl [+ others], NC-17, 5,515 words)
Summary: Karl breaks plans with Chris for a D&D game with some friends. Features pining!Chris, oblivious!Karl, and wisdom from a surprising source.
Notes: I absolutely adore this endearingly sexy (and geeky) Karl. Gotta love the cameos from a few other actors as well. Sweet and hilarious and hot.

Home by medea_fic (Karl/Eric, NC-17, 14,000 words)
Summary: This is an AU fic in which neither Karl nor Eric ever married, although it follows the general structure of their careers (with some fudging on the timeline). Karl did spend a year in Australia around 1995, which is what I based this story on.
Notes: I loved a lot of things about this -- the Australian setting complete with awesome slang, the characters who are both lovable and flawed, the sex scenes that are hot even when things go wrong. And I always love a good reunion fic.

I Need You So Much Closer by the_deep_magic (Zach/Chris, NC-17, 28,850 words)
Summary: "Something happened. In Pittsburgh. Something bad."
Notes: This fic deals with the aftermath of a sexual assault, so do avoid if that's not your thing -- but if you're a hurt/comfort fan like I am, run, don't walk. The author avoids the dreaded Magical Cock of Healing, instead taking her characters through the full range of emotions that would result from this sort of experience, including the not-easily-romanticized ones like anger and snappishness and shame. The sex scenes are loving and sexy, including one of the best rimming scenes I've ever read.

Notes: Awww! This snowy piece makes me feel warm inside. Beautifully drawn.

What Do You Want? by zauzat (Pike/Barnett, NC-17, 3,000 words)
Summary: A dutiful Barnett is trying to do the right thing. A traumatized Pike is not making it easy.
Notes: If you like Pike at all, give this fic a try. The author does an amazing job of capturing his jumble of emotions following the Narada -- the fury and shame that he tries to project outward when it's mostly directed at himself. I loved watching Barnett figure out how to respond, and how to give Pike what he needs in the end.

In the interests of interspecies relations... by imachar (Pike/tentacle creature, NC-17, 3,300 words)
Summary: Pike gets a little more than he bargained for when he has to seal a trade deal.
Notes: This fic is hot, but what I enjoyed most was that there's some really thoughtful characterization too. I like how Pike and the alien communicate almost entirely with their bodies.

Summary: Sulu's mother was the captain of the Farragut, and she died in the Battle of Vulcan. Or so he thought.
Notes: This gorgeous fic brought me close to tears. It's set after the Narada battle, with the premise that Sulu's mom was the captain of the Farragut. No matter how you feel about Sulu or gen fic or whatever, don't miss this one.

Kirk/McCoy
The Greater Good by emiliglia (Kirk/McCoy, NC-17, 29,020 words)
Summary: Doctor Leonard McCoy thinks he's getting by, working as both a surgeon and a researcher at UCSF Medical Center. A chance encounter with Lieutenant Jim Kirk - who's changed since they first met five years before, and not for the better - forces Leonard to face reality about his own situation while trying to keep Jim from heading down the same path.
Notes: This is a long, engrossing, sometimes painful story about two broken characters trying to fumble their way back to some sort of peace. I loved watching that fumbling lead them toward each other.

Fuck Yeah, Autocorrect! by winterover (Kirk/McCoy, light R, 1,637 words)
Summary: For the buckleup_meme prompt "It would be hilarious/awesome to see awkward autocorrected messages between Jim and Bones leading to miscommunications and culminating in the start of what will ultimately become an epic relationship."
Notes: Usually when I type "LOL" I'm not actually laughing out loud, but with this fic I totally was -- all the way through. The title pretty much says it all.

Other
A Vibration of Delight by imachar (Pike/McCoy, NC-17, 5,200 words)
Summary: So what did happen after Pike dragged McCoy off to his hotel room?
Notes: This is a sequel to Truth and Consequences by zauzat, which you should read first. But while that is cracky fun, this fic is a bit more serious in tone. (And more graphically porny. *g*) It's Pike and McCoy's first time together, and they're both feeling a little nervous. The author has a glorious way with writing M/M sex -- it's hot as hell, but the emotions feel real.

Kirk/McCoy

Watching You by umbrellas_can (Kirk/McCoy, NC-17, 1,500 words)

Notes: This fic made me melt. Every woman should be loved like this.

No Roses on Vulcan by igrockspock (Amanda/Sarek, PG, 2,000 words)
Summary: Faced with an unresolvable disagreement with his wife, Sarek seeks help from his mother.
Notes: Here's a humorous rec -- a fic about Sarek going to his mother for assistance after having a fight with Amanda. It's too funny (though rather touching as well) watching the two Vulcans try to figure out the baffling ways of humans.

These Fragments Shored Against My Ruins by echoinautumn (bridge crew, R, ~12,000 words)
Summary: When McCoy goes missing on an emergency mission, the Enterprise searches for clues to his disappearance and encounters a dangerous race.
Notes: This fic had the feel of a TOS episode to me, with an action-driven plot and all of the characters working together to thwart a seemingly much stronger enemy. McCoy in particular shines here in his bravery.

On the other side of every mountain by jactrades (McCoy, Kirk, R, 6,300 words)
Summary: It's nine in the morning, they've already been in the OR tent for four hours, and Jim Kirk, surgeon extraordinaire, feels chatty. Of course.
Notes: This is a fusion/crossover of sorts with M*A*S*H, which you don't need to have seen to appreciate this. (I hadn't.) I quite enjoyed the friendship between Kirk and McCoy, and the sense of camaraderie and family among the rest of the cast of characters.

No Big Truth by mcstories (Sulu/Chekov, background Uhura/Spock and Kirk/McCoy, PG-13, ~22,000 words)
Summary: Hikaru Sulu has a great life - a fun job, an awesome best friend, a complete lack of ambition. Things are perfect...until a green-eyed kid in a suit and tie screws up everything.
Notes: This is a sweet, funny and engrossing AU featuring Hikaru as a "normal" guy and Pavel as a bit of a social misfit. I love how the author plays these two off each other and takes their relationship in unexpected directions.

Kirk/McCoy
Six Rules to Survive Falling in Love With Your Best Friend (And How to Break Them) by Dr. Leonard McCoy by babel (Kirk/McCoy, NC-17, 3,367 words)
Summary: Rule #1: Don't fall in love.
Notes: I always enjoy a pining Bones, and this fic is a wonderful example of it. I also love the way the author captures his friendship with Jim; they both felt quite in character to me.

Dead Cold by emmagrant01 (Kirk/McCoy, NC-17, 2,400 words)
Summary: Jim and Bones' shuttle is damaged/attacked on their way back to the Enterprise, and is drifting dead in space. They're days away from help.
Notes: Many fics in which the characters think they're about to die get melodramatic or sappy; I love that this one doesn't, not really. It's a nicely written scene with dollops of affection, hotness and humor.

Other
The Light Goes Out by writer_klmeri (Kirk/Spock/McCoy, not rated [I'd estimate PG-13], ~3,300 words)
Summary: Leonard McCoy contracts xenopolycythemia. Some tragedies must run their course.
Notes: As the summary suggests, there is no magical cure for McCoy's illness in this story. This is beautifully written and broke my heart.

Kirk/Sulu

Cops and Robbers by rain_dog_fallin (Kirk/Sulu, NC-17, 3,600 words)
Summary: Kirk and Sulu have fun on the holodeck playing cowboys. Sexy fun.
Notes: That summary tells you most of what you need to know, except that it doesn't come anywhere near capturing how hot this is. Sheriff Sulu and outlaw Kirk pretty much melted my computer screen. (Note: There are no warnings in the fic header, but there is some bondage, a gag and a few moments that could feel a bit like dub-con if you didn't know they were role playing.)

Kirk/McCoy

40 Days Of One Night Stands by silverlining_99 (Kirk/McCoy, NC-17, 3,500 words)
Summary: Getting it right.
Notes: Nobody writes this pairing the way this author does. The fic is pretty much one giant sex scene (and it's HOT), but there is so much emotional stuff going on beneath the surface, some of which not even the characters are aware of.

10 June 2011 @ 09:17 pm
This Time Around by melyanna (McCoy/Chapel, PG-13, ~29,300 words)
Summary: With acrimonious ends to relationships just behind them, Christine Chapel and Leonard McCoy come to Starfleet to move on, and they both find more than new careers.
Notes: I really enjoyed how the author took the time to develop McCoy and Chapel's relationship slowly, starting with a deep friendship. I also liked reading about their circle of Academy friends.

Kirk/Spock
With My Feet Toward the Stars (let me remember you as you were when you existed) by rinsbane (Kirk/Spock, R, ~33,000 words)
Summary: At age five, Spock informs his mother that it is illogical to wish him “sweet dreams” at bedtime because Vulcans do not dream. “Oh, Spock,” she says.
Notes: Kirk/Spock is not a pairing I normally read, but in the hands of this author it's absolutely beautiful. I loved Spock's contemplative point of view and the dreamy, lyrical imagery.

Spock/McCoy
Reaching for the Sky Just to Surrender by what_alchemy (Spock/McCoy, NC-17, ~11,000 words)
Summary: Turns out, Spock and McCoy share a demon or two.
Notes: This is a sensitive take on McCoy as an alcoholic. It was painful to read at times but thoroughly engrossing. The development of his relationship with Spock felt realistic to me, and I loved how Jim was such a good friend to him.

Summary: "Then you're aware that he was born a woman?" The officer doesn't look like he's about to laugh, which is a plus. Warning: transphobia.
Notes: I can't recommend this story enough. The author offers a very credible portrayal of a sadly still transphobic future, but also gives us real hope that things do get better. Kirk's characterization is spot-on and the characterization of McCoy as good but imperfect man rings very true to life. A deft and subtle rendering of issues we don't often see in fic.

Mother, Can You Hide the Waiting World by sharpestscalpel (mirror!Rand/mirror!Chapel, PG-13, 4180 words)
Summary: Janice Rand never wanted to be like her mother; perhaps there is another way to be.
Notes: In the mirrorverse, Janice Rand is an abuse survivor and Chapel a tough nurse with a hint of compassion. When Rand is assaulted, the two slowly build a connection. I loved the way that Chapel and Rand's relationship slowly evolved, and more than that, I enjoyed 's original take on the mirrorverse. It's still a tough place to live, and still a place where people plot and scheme, but it doesn't preclude genuine friendships and affection. Heed the warnings in the header.

Home, Let Me Come by tosca1390 (Jim Kirk, Winona Kirk, PG-13, 2000 words)
Summary: It took everything in her not to start scolding him. Jim had always been independent, a firm believer that he could handle his own life and his own choices.
Notes: After the battle of Vulcan, Winona finds Jim and drags him home. tosca1390 always writes a lovely Winona, and this story is no exception. It was a pleasure to read about a happy, functional relationship between Winona and Jim for once, and I particularly liked the way this story achieved that while acknowledging that Winona had been absent for much of Jim's life.

Surgeon's Mate by belmanoir (Spock/McCoy, PG-13, 4,771 words)
Summary: Spock likes McCoy. McCoy won't take a hint.
Notes: This is an endearing little fic featuring a pining Spock and a clueless McCoy. Funny and sweet, with a great Spock voice.

Untitled by lissaea (Kirk/Spock, G)
Notes: Absolutely stunning portrait of these two characters.

Jim's Spock Stalker Photo Collection by cannedebonbon (Kirk/Spock, NC-17)
Notes: The many moods and images of Spock, from innocent portraits to a few very porny views.

Perpetual Feeling in the Grown-up World by tocourtdisaster (Joanna, Winona, Jocelyn/Clay, Kirk/McCoy)
Summary: Joanna Treadway meets Leonard McCoy when she’s seven and a half years old. She hates him immediately.
Notes: This is a wonderfully warm and rich look at Joanna's family and her relationships with them. All the characters feel very real.

Seder by _samalander (Ensemble with background Kirk/McCoy, G, 1,029 words)
Summary: For passover, they share a meal.
Notes: I really enjoyed reading Jim's thoughts as he shares a meal with his family aboard the Enterprise. A beautifully written little fic.

Kirk/McCoy

Suited (The Three Things you Must Know to Live) by yeomanrand and shinychimera (Kirk/McCoy, NC-17, 6,700 words)
Summary: When someone else foolishly tries to stake a claim on Jim, possessive and affectionate Bones helps him discover a few of the many things that a collar can mean.
Notes: This is an absolutely gorgeous, intimate D/S scene in the aftermath of an attempted non-con situation, in which Jim and Bones (re)claim each other. I love the way the two characters communicate with their bodies as well as their words.

FML (fuck my life) series by zauzat (Kirk/McCoy, Pike/Boyce, Kirk/McCoy/Pike/Boyce, NC-17, ~10,000 words)
Summary: Thanks to Jim, Leonard inadvertently sends some dirty texts to the Surgeon General. Who shares them with Admiral Pike. It's all downhill from there.
Notes: This series runs the gamut from hilarious to hot, with a few stops in poignant-ville along the way. I like how the author uses the foursome scenario to work out the dynamics of the individual twosomes.

Don't Hold Your Tongue by inksheddings (Kirk/McCoy, NC-17, 1,050 words)
Summary: I'm … not sure there is one? Seriously, this is pretty much straight-up PWP.
Notes: Deliciously hot rimming porn!

Rules of Engagement by cymbalism219 (Kirk/McCoy, NC-17, 3,000 words)
Summary: Heart-to-hearts aren't really McCoy's deal, but ground rules are.
Notes: This fic is sixth in a series, and while I certainly recommend the earlier stories, this delicious bit of porn stands just fine on its own. The image of a clothed Bones and a naked Jim in front of a mirror is too hot for words (and the fic only gets yummier from there).

TNG:
1,023 Days on Earth by cosmic_llin (Guinan - PG - 2000 words)
Summary: Guinan had never heard of Earth until she crashed on it.
Notes: This Guinan is so different from her adult counterpart, yet her calm self-assurance perfectly fits the woman we see on the Enterprise. In the hands of a less capable author, her adventures on Earth might strain credibility, but in this story, they feel like a natural outgrowth of her personality.

DS9:
Mimesis by bimo (Julian, Odo (gen), PG-13, 845 words)
Summary: A glimpse at Julian Bashir right after the "In Purgatory's Shadow /By Inferno's Light" two-parter (Spoilers through 5x16, "Doctor Bashir, I Presume?")
Notes: Gorgeous and insightful. A lovely Julian-centric coda.

The Traitor by babel (Garak/Bashir, Pg-13, ~5,200 words)
Summary: An AU version of season 6 or 7 in which the Obsidian Order was successful during The Die is Cast and took political control of Cardassia.

"I remember Miles said to me one time 'he's a Cardassian, Julian,' as if that explained everything."

"Doesn't it?"

"No."

Garak pressed his lips together, giving himself a moment. "That is why you will never understand me, Doctor."

Notes: I ached for both of them, because Babel managed to capture them both so perfectly-- the dichotomy that is Garak, Julian's faith, the grey world in which they live-- the choices that are no choice at all. The dialog and deep insight is so sparkling and spot-on and them that it reads like the end of an episode that never aired. This fic will tear you apart...and you will love every moment of it. Who knew that heartbreak could be so gorgeous?

From Ghoulies and Ghosties and Long-Legged Beasties by seanchaidh (Joanna McCoy, Leonard McCoy, Jim Kirk, Jocelyn McCoy, PG, 8500 words)
Summary: Joanna McCoy is ten years old when her father dies on an away mission. So why is she seeing him in Georgia?
Notes: Joanna is a wonderfully developed character here, precocious but still definitely a child. Her relationship with her father is poignant, and the mystery feels like it could have come out of a real Star Trek episode.

Sisters by taraljc (Gaila, Uhura, PG, 2000 words)
Summary: Living with Gaila isn't all that different from living at home with her sisters.
Notes: This story takes a very simple premise -- Gaila declining a night out with Uhura's sisters -- and works it into surprisingly rich back stories about both women's families. Both Gaila and Uhura are beautifully characterized, and their friendship feels very real.

these old walkin' blues by ignipes (McCoy, PG-13, 3,000 words)
Summary: He's a doctor. He's only doing his job. (Five unrelated scenes.)
Notes: This is an older fic that I reread often because it's one of my all-time favorite character studies of McCoy. The prompt really says it all: Five times McCoy showed he had a heart of gold.

lay my loves upon the shore by echoinautumn (Pavel Chekov, G, 993 words)
Summary: It’s been years since he’s seen the snow in Sankt-Peterburg, all the way across the universe in Russia.
Notes: Chekov back story is hard to come by, and this one is a lyrical and beautiful glimpse at Pavel's parents, his childhood, and his slow transformation from boy to man.

The Waiting (Is The Hardest Part) by azewewish (Kirk, Uhura, PG, 1,257 words)
Summary: Kirk wasn't used to feeling helpless.
Notes: This is a really nice scene between Kirk and Uhura after their first disastrous mission. I like Uhura's quiet strength.

Kirk/McCoy
A Show of Strength by thistlerose (Kirk/McCoy, teen, 8,500 words)
Summary: McCoy is badly injured on an away mission. Who bears responsibility is not at all clear-cut, leading to much miscommunication and internalized guilt.
Notes: This is just some well-written fiction right here -- every word of it, from the title to the gorgeous ending, is layered and carefully chosen. Even as I was swept up in the plot, which involves Jim and Bones dealing with the aftermath of an away mission gone wrong, I was also appreciating the way the story is put together: the way the author slowly spins out the truth of what really happened down on the planet, the way she echoes threads of earlier scenes in later ones. It's beautifully done.

Koru (spiral into you) by janice_lester (Kirk/McCoy, NC-17, 26,000 words)
Summary: Bones has issues. Jim has a plan he might not be able to stick to. Also, there is travel, there is bourbon, and there is a lot of hanging out at Bones's on-campus apartment.
Notes: This fic is an utter pleasure to sink into (I've read it a few times now). It's got many things I love in fic: a character- and relationship-driven plot, porn that's not only hot but that also illuminates what the characters are feeling, and a deep friendshippy love between Bones and Jim. Bones has quite a few issues in this fic, and I love how patient and flexible Jim is with him. I also really liked the way the author wrote Winona and Jocelyn in this -- no demonizing going on. I was left with total hearts in my eyes.

Kirk/McCoy

These matters of trust by eonism (Kirk/McCoy, NC-17, 3,178 words)
Summary: Kirk doesn’t ask why. The why isn’t important, or the how or the when or the nagging details of whom he’s done this with. He just knows McCoy needs it and he wants to give it to him, and that’s enough.
Notes: As soon as I finished reading this, I scrolled up to read it again. A gorgeously slow, hot, intimate bondage scene.

McCoy/Chapel

An Education by miera_c (McCoy/Chapel, past Korby/Chapel, NC-17, 3,204 words)
Summary: Every relationship is a learning experience.
Notes: This fic shows how hot plain old vanilla het sex can be. I love how turned on McCoy is by Chapel's pleasure.

Illustration from Desideratum by cannedebonbon (Kirk/Spock, NC-17)
Notes: There's a bunch of stuff in this post, but the *ahem* money shot is the last of the bunch, a smoking hot illustration from what_alchemy's fic Desideratum: Kirk fingering Spock. If you're looking for a hot, explicit image of Jim providing Spock with toe-curling pleasure, this is it.

Vegan Cupcakes for All (Or Whatever) by medea_fic (Pinto, NC-17, 14,560 words)
Summary:AU. Chris is a five star chef who gets hired to cater for (famous actor) Zachary Quinto's birthday bash. They meet and suddenly, Chris is always Zach's go-to choice for food for every little occasion… Chris really doesn't mind answering the calls for 'Chinese-inspired' fajitas at four in the morning, either...
Notes: this exquisite fic is an amazing combination of flavors and lovely ingredients perfectly composed by a skilled chef to great effect. It will have you longing for comfort food shared with a love one.

Home is Just Another Word For You by thistlerose (McCoy/Uhura, G, 1,580 words)
Summary: At thirty-three, Nyota Uhura has a career and a family. Balancing the two isn't always easy, though Leonard is a big help, but it seems to be worth the effort.
Notes: This is a bittersweet fic about a theme many women surely can relate to. I loved all the little details that made Nyota's world seem real.

Blood on the Saddle by halfpenny_press (McCoy/Chapel, R, ~10,000 words)
Summary: Guys, it's Wild West AU and I have five titles from five songs about cowboys and apparently, I don't need sleep so much as I need to write more McCoy/Chapel.
Notes: If you enjoy strong and interesting female characters, do not miss this one. It's a romance fic (and a gorgeously written one at that), but it's also very much Chapel's story as she learns to recognize her own resilience.

Cover art for Koru (Spiral Into You) by nix_this (Kirk/McCoy, worksafe)
Notes: This is art that goes with a fantastic fic (which I also highly recommend), but you don't need to read it to appreciate what the artist has done. The style is lovely and I love the emotion in the characters' body language.

Untitled by goss (Uhura/Gaila, not worksafe)
Notes: A relaxed moment between Nyota and Gaila. Their bodies are so beautiful.

Where You Lead, I Will Follow by savoytruffle (Kirk/McCoy, teen, 4,500 words)
Summary: It’s not like it bothers Jim that Bones is happy. Jim wants Bones to be happy. It’s just that Jim isn’t going to rest until he knows what is making Bones happy. And figures out a way to become a part of it.
Notes: This is just delightful. I love how determined Jim is to figure out Bones's secret, and there are some fantastic (and hilarious) friendship scenes between him and Spock.

Kirk/Spock
Bedside Manner by janice_lester (Kirk/Spock, hint of McCoy/OMC, R, 2,300 words)
Summary: It's just another day in sickbay for Doctor McCoy, dealing with a dozen cases of the sniffles and giving grumpy sex advice to his superior officers. It's not all bad, though.
Notes: I'm not really a Kirk/Spock fan, but "long-suffering Dr. McCoy dealing with ridiculous sex questions" is one of my absolute favorite themes in fic, so I gave this a go -- and was so glad I did. It made me laugh so hard my significant other could hear me upstairs.

A Perfect Fit by enkanowen (Kirk/Sulu, NC-17, 3,900 words)
Summary: Jim Kirk is having a bad day, a very bad day. Then it gets better.
Notes: Just as the summary implies, this fic broke my heart a little and then mended it beautifully. I like how well taken care of Jim is here, not only by Sulu but also by the rest of the crew.

Just Can't Get Enough by silverlining_99 (Kirk/McCoy, NC-17, 8,200)
Summary: Jim just can't get enough. Like...really. Lucky for him, Bones takes it rather well.
Notes: Kink after kink that is so incredibly hot and perfectly executed that it almost seems unfair that the author also manages to capture the essence of what makes K/M such a great pairing with effortless talent.

Phase Me Out by canis_takahari (Kirk/McCoy, NC-17, 7,600)
Summary: Bones has something he wants, and Jim just can’t figure it out.
Notes: Utterly charming and with canis_takahari's usual style in which she captures both the absurdity and gravitas of these characters while winding them together in something that feels inevitable but never predictable. And when Jim finally figures out what Bones has been wanting? Hot damn.

Table For Three by savoytruffle (Kirk/McCoy, NC-17, 7,480)
Summary: Sexual frustration turns Jim’s mind into a five-credit porno theater. Jim turns a romantic Valentine’s Day dinner into a quiet but dirty semi-public negotiation. Bones and a special third party turn Jim into an almost passive object for their pleasure (and Jim’s). Then there’s a brief heart-to-heart. The End.
Notes: I tend not to read a lot of D/s in which Jim is the sub, it's just not my kink, but I've always enjoyed savoytruffle's sharp characterization and the way she never loses sight of who Jim and Bones are in order to show who they are to each other. This story is no exception. Jim's daydreams are hot, his antics are so very Jim Kirk, and the end result with the threesome is hot as hell with a twist that pleased me GREATLY. Definitely a must read.

Under Surveillance by withthepilot (Kirk/McCoy, NC-17, 7,000)
Summary: Jim thinks he knows exactly how Bones blows off steam but an extended stay in sickbay (and a bit of spying) prove his assumptions wrong.
Notes: OH GOD THIS IS SO RIDICULOUSLY HOT. I love voyeurism so much. SO MUCH. Jim is delightful, Bones is smoking hot and wonderfully dirty, and it all comes together for something amazingly sexy.

Benefits by checkerboxed (Kirk/McCoy, R, ~500 words)
Summary: For the "Fuck My Life" challenge at jim_and_bones for the prompt: After having sex with my best friend for the third time he said it was awesome being friends with benefits. I kind of hoped it was more than that. FML.
Notes: This little jewel of a fic captures the heartbreak of a McCoy who isn't prepared for Kirk's perspective on their relationship.

The Postman Always Pings Twice by sharpestscalpel (Kirk/McCoy, R, 5500 words)
Summary: The boys are separated for a couple weeks. For whatever reason, visual communication is not available, so they are sending sub-space messages that get more interesting as their reunion gets closer.
Notes: This is a clever, funny, and deftly written slow burn of a fic where Kirk and McCoy have to communicate via text messages while they're apart. What's unsaid and unsaid between them is fascinating, and sharpestscalpel fits in all manner of pithy turns of phrase. Oh also, did I mention there was a bonus foursome? Because there's that, too.

I'd Take a Bullet Meant for Both of Us by brighteyed_jill (Kirk/McCoy, Pike/McCoy, Kirk/Various, NC-17, 22,700 words)
Summary: When backed into a corner, McCoy had to make a deal with Christopher Pike, Commandant of Cadets at the Imperial Academy. If Kirk had been there, he might have been able to tell McCoy that was a mistake. Kirk, at least, had taken some tactics courses. McCoy must stumble through the consequences of his deal and strike a dangerous balance between the suspicions of two powerful men.
Notes: This is powerful and compelling, intriguing from the very first paragraph. The evolution of the relationships here and McCoy's perception and understanding of them, the revelation of Pike's endgame, and Kirk's sharp-edged brilliance... it all comes together for a breathtaking story. Utterly amazing.

Rentboy!Jim Drabble by spikeface (Kirk/Pike, Kirk/McCoy, Mirrorverse AU, R, ~1500 words)
Summary: Rentboy!Jim
Notes: Okay, so the title is a little misleading, because this is so much more than hooker!fic. As in much excellent mirror!verse fic, it's really the interpersonal politics that drive this fic; Kirk and McCoy both owe something to Pike, but they see something special in one another. I especially enjoyed poor, drugged!up Jim being so vulnerable, and the way McCoy takes care of him.

Adrift by janice_lester (Pinto, NC-17, ~8,000 words)
Summary:Chris has a bad dream, attempts to give up porn, and turns to Zach for advice.
Notes:This fic is funny, a tiny bit angsty and absolutly perfect. I love the pacing and that, even thought it's Chris POV, you get this little insights as to what Zach is hoping for.

Kirk/McCoy
testify by soldierly (Kirk/McCoy, NC-17, 2,100)
Summary: When his stepfather Frank is put on trial for pedophile charges, Jim opens old wounds by testifying against him.
Notes: I will simply say that I generally refuse to read any fic with this sort of theme/plot. This is the exception to the rule. An absolutely brilliant take, fresh, moving, and understated. Kirk and McCoy's relationship is realistic, their dynamic believable. Kirk's past doesn't define him, but it is a part of him, and that was particularly well-done in this story.
